We spent our honeymoon here in 2003, and was planning on going back in October of this year for our 15th anniversary. The Bora Bora Lagoon Resort was so romantic. We had the very end honeymoon suite with the view of Mt. Otemanu directly out our door while lying in bed. We had the over water bure. It was expensive but worth it! It was $900.00 per night, and we stayed for 18 days. It was truly heaven on earth, even though this trip costs us over $20K! They were were building a new Sheraton just on the other side of the motu, so I will look into that one for now.

“We spent our 10th wedding anniversary here!”

I'm so sad to see this lovely place has closed. My husband and I spent our 10th anniversary here (1998) and considered returning for our 30th next year. It was a beautiful place with wonderful people. Bora Bora will always hold a special place in my heart. :)

So heartbroken to hear this resort has been shut down. We saved the best for last when we honeymooned on several islands in French Polynesia. Back in October of 1995, the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort was one of few places offering over water bungalows. The resort was fantastic and the staff went out of their way to make us feel welcomed and pampered. We had every intention of celebrating our 25th Anniversary there in 2020. Hope someone hurries up and buys the property to reopen it before then!!

I'm sad to read that the Bora Bora Lagoon Resort is out of business, having never reopened after hurricane damage a few years ago. It wasn't the ritziest of the overwater resorts, but it was truly beautiful, the service was great, the staff was friendly, the food was good, the overwater bungalows were just perfect, and its view of Mount Otemanu was picture perfect. It also had THE best location of any of the motu-based resorts. Being just across the bay from the main dock at Vaitape meant they could easily have their shuttle boat go back and forth every hour all day long. This was a great benefit as you didn't have to plan your excursions to the main island, you could just easily hop on the boat, and if you missed it, you only had to wait an hour. Plus you could visit the restaurants ashore for dinner and not worry about missing the last boat back. It's really sad that they're gone, and inexplicable that no one has repaired and reopened the facility. We visited in November of 2004 and always intended to go back.
