I had an extremely disappointing experience at HOTEL CLAD, primarily due to the unprofessional conduct of the staff member who identified himself as the manager on duty at the reception. From the moment we arrived, his attitude was dismissive, cold, and condescending, demonstrating little regard for basic hospitality standards. This stay was meant to celebrate my honeymoon with my wife, and the hotel had been informed of this in advance, which made the experience even more disheartening. Due to an honest booking mistake, the reservation was made for one guest instead of two — a situation that can happen and is typically handled with understanding and flexibility. However, the manager repeatedly insisted on charging for an additional guest, despite the fact that such a charge was unnecessary. As someone who works in the hotel industry, I am well aware of standard procedures in these situations. When I attempted to inquire about hotel amenities or possible solutions, the manager focused solely on payment, dismissing my concerns and making no effort to resolve the matter professionally. Rather than offering assistance or empathy, he displayed a complete lack of customer care. A hotel is only as good as the staff who represent it. Allowing employees to treat guests in this manner reflects poorly on the hotel’s management and training standards. I strongly urge HOTEL CLAD to take this matter seriously, as no guest — especially one celebrating a special occasion — should be subjected to such treatment. Until meaningful improvements are made, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone who values professionalism, hospitality, and basic courtesy.

“Fantastic views of Mount Fuji”

The hotel location provides scenic views of Mount Fuji from the hotel rooms and breakfast parlour. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. I stayed at the hotel as a part of the Kesari Tours Japan and China tour group.

I have stayed there for 3 times on packaged tour since June 2024 in 3 different room types. The spacious rooms for me were comfy and with an unblocked view of Fujisan. The breakfasts were not bad but the last time I was upset as the limited sushi choices had been lifted. The view of Fujisan there from the breakfast eatery was limited as trees were in between outside the glass windows. Yet the seating area across the concierge lobby was a perfect spot for taking a good personal photo featuring a full view of Fujisan if you did that not that late in a sunny morning and there were not many guests behind you. Often a good mobile phone shot worked much better than a typical good digital camera given the spacious area and the huge one piece glass window behind you. The outlets down the slope were also appealing if you fancied buying certain off-season, luxurious branded items.

The rooms are medium-sized compared to other Japanese hotels, modern and comfortable. The view of Mount Fuji is spectacular. For those planning to shop at the Gotemba Outlet, it is definitely the best option, with exclusive access to the 3rd-floor entrance of the Outlet. They have a restaurant with a buffet option, though the menu is fixed. We had a negative experience: we had checked out and removed our luggage before 3 PM, as agreed. The day was rainy and very windy, so my travel group (8 people) was waiting for our transportation in the lobby. However, at 3:30PM, a staff member ordered all guests who had checked out, including my group, to leave the lobby, forcing us to wait outside the hotel with several pieces of luggage in strong wind and heavy rain. I have traveled all over the world and have never seen anything like this!
