“Pleasant Hotel in the Heart of Montpelier”

I'd give it a 4.5 stars if I had the option. The best thing about this hotel was its location. Arriving by bus from Montreal, it was only a 1 minute walk from the transit center to the hotel. I'd give it a 4.5 stars if I had the option. The best thing about this hotel was its location. Arriving by bus from Montreal, it was only a 1 minute walk from the transit center to the hotel. I didn't even need a car for the entirety of my stay. I visited the State Capitol and the Vermont Historical Society Museum, as well as enjoyed hiking in Hubbard Park, all in easy walking distance. A significant variety of restaurants and cafes were accessible within 5-10 minutes of strolling. Breakfast is not complimentary and the fitness center had stationary bikes and treadmills rather than a cross trainer. They have a small elevator. Capitol Grounds Coffee is close by and good if having a strong coffee is important to you. The staff was very friendly and the room and bathroom were of the standard one would expect from a Hilton property, quite comfortable and clean.

The Capitol Plaza is in an old building right in the heart of Montpelier, within walking distance of everything downtown. Although it looks charming on the outside with the red bricks and grand entrance, the rooms are pure Hilton--corporate decor. They are pretty standard and bland rooms which could use some updating. They impressed me with their service, proactively contacting me when their elevator broke down and asking if I still wanted a room on the upper floors, or a room lower down. I appreciated that. Note that they have a parking lot behind the hotel, off Taylor St. It's the gated lot, not well marked, and they charge $12 per day.
